First off, I’d like to formally apologize for this one. Yeah.
Better Off Alone | Alice Deejay
(via Winnie Cooper)Come on, don’t act like you didn’t like this song when it first came out (2000), unless for some reason you were too young to really appreciate the whole dance/trance trend…I’d like to think that most people around my age went through a phase (secretly or not-so-secretly) where they just wanted to throw on a pair of JNCO Jeans and get candied up to go to a rave and wave around glow sticks.
So, I actually got the advance promo copy of this one at the Blossom Hill/San Jose Tower Records.
I was either wearing JNCOs or GATs, and the cuffs were at least twice the circumference of the waist. I take plenty of solace in the fact that I was mostly a drum-and-bass kid at the time, but I certainly didn’t look like a drum-and-bass kid. I was a poster-child to the point of self-parody.
This song is the aural equivalent of the 40+” pant leg. It is a stark, highly distilled cultural signpost, signifying the Great Exhalation immediately following the (fairly anticlimactic) close of the millenium wherein Futurism and Banality finally took their relationship to third base. It was pretty awkward, to say the least.
