Aphex Twin - Nannou (via youtube)
Aphex Twin changed my life.
I was always one of those terminally nerdy kids, albeit w/a bit more of a modicum of social competency. I would blast Mozart at an unreasonable volume out my window.
Time passed, and I spent a few days watching nothing but MTV for the course of a flu infection. Boyz II Men. Hootie and the Blowfish. Alanis Morisette. *cough*
Another year or two. I listened to the Richard D. James on a listening station at Tower Records in San Jose.
It’s a rapid descent downhill from there.
Next came a blissful ( and from my perspective at the time, Terribly Fucking Prestigious ) position as BASS ticket clerk at the aforementioned Tower Records.
Next came Atari Teenage Riot.
Next came a whole lot of time hanging out with Drum and Bass DJs and a whole lot of time staring at my computer fiddling with sequencers.
Next came the Drukqs album. It was fascinating. Play the vinyl. Keep reducing the rpm. The drum programming never seems to degrade in beauty complexity.
Next came Tigerbeat6 parties in basements.
Next came more than a few paychecks sacrificed at the altar of RobotSpeak.
It continues. I may even learn how to play an instrument at some time, but most likely I will continue to blast unreasonable shit over my headphones and play with knobs and sliders and sequencers and electronics in various states of disrepair in my spare time.
